ARCH COOKING CLASS

Walking Tacos & Homemade Taco Seasoning

Our first cooking class, we made walking tacos. I know, some of you are wondering what that is! Don’t feel left out, because I went strait to google the first time somebody  mentioned them to me! I thought they would be perfect for the kids  to make,  so they could customize their taco any way they wanted.

The older class browned our beef, and each of the kids measured out the seasonings for our tacos. Each child had a vegetable to cut up, using their  “kids in the kitchen knives”. They were so excited to learn knife techniques, that some of them even tried vegetables they had not tried before, or that in the past they thought they did not like.  I have a rule in the class, if you honestly try a food and don’t like it, you do not have to eat it. The first week I had a girl decide she liked lettuce, and one decide she was not fond of cilantro! But, the moral is they tried a new food!

Included below are the recipes for the taco seasoning, and for how we made the walking tacos. A few parents have  requested the recipes.  Some of the kids were really excited, that they had already made these recipes for their families!

Thanks to the parents that have signed your children up for cooking class. I have really enjoyed having each one of them in there. My goal is to teach them to not be intimidated in the kitchen, and show them its ok to try new things. I want them to see that we all mess up, and that is ok!
